UI Hotkeys Not Working

Was interacting with the smelter then when I exited, I was unable to use hotkeys, with the exception of numbers, x, c, and L. I cannot open the menu or exit from the game with esc. I can leave the smelter and other machines with esc. This was after building a conveyor belt and starting the smelter for the first time. I can use tools that are on my hot bar, but not open my inventory.
