Recent update - No wood being collecting , inventory goin missing?

I have just recently updated the game and started a new Game.
I was trying to collect wood but my inventory was full, So I emptied a few items and wood started to be sucked into my character. However when I came to try building with it or manufacturing it into a wooden pillar it was no longer in my inventory but the machine said how many logs I had?
I decided to shutdown the game and reload, this has loaded me back into the same area of the game but this time my inventory is completely empty.
